Granite stands the test of time and remains a popular solid surface for home today, and with good reason. Granite has a microstructure which makes it strong and durable. Granite is ideal for home improvements, especially for kitchens and baths.
Advantages to granite are:
1. It's beautiful.
2. With quality fabrication and installation, granite adds terrific presence to your home.
3. It's durable and easily cleaned, which makes it ideal for kitchens.
Granite is sold by the square foot. Here at Georgia STONEWORKS, the price per square foot includes material, templating, fabrication and installation.
You can expect to pay anywhere from $38-$60 per square foot, depending on the type of stone you select. Exotic stone will cost more than stone of consistent pattern. For example, a builder grade stone might cost $38 per square foot, while exotic stone will cost much more.
We'll talk more about granite valuation later.
Quartz is man-made, also known as engineered stone. Quartz has great appeal for commercial applications and special design projects that call for unnatural colors and patterns. its made from crushed stone and resin. Quartz can be a plain white industrial countertop, or can take on an art like presence when you start looking at the newer quartz on the market today.
Advantages to Quartz:
1. Quartz is super hard, low maintenance and usually non-porous.
2. Color choices are unlimited. Some of the newest Quartz on the market is truly incredible, but not necessarily for everyone. I will touch on this later.
3. It's ideal for commercial environments and can be used in places that call for a steril environment.
Quartz is expensive. Prices start at $50 per square foot and are often more than $100 per square foot.
I believe eve granite is a better choice for most homeowners, mainly because it practical, beautiful and usually more cost effective than Quartz.
Marble is less durable than granite. It is beautiful. It's characterized by the beautiful veins that run thru it. Marble is usually either gray in color, or a creamy shade of white. The veins which permeate marble are a result of mineral impurities, usually iron oxides and silts.
Advantages to Marble:
Its beautiful, not as practical as granite, mainly due to its softness.
I'm not aware of any other advantages of marble, but it's beautiful and works great as long as it's not used for your kitchen.
